I had a very good experience dealing with CGI, SFO

Applied for OCI on 01/02/2008
approved on 05th March and shipped from Delhi on 10th March.

At this time, I was little worried to send the passport in mail because our travel date was on 7th (4th would be last business day before our travel time) and I have seen posts showing that it might take two weeks to reach SFO and other two weeks to get it stamped and returned.. (worst case)

So, I emailed CGISF asking permission to pickup the OCI cards in person. They assured that once the cards reach sfo, and if I send the passports in time, they could return it within two business day..

Cards reached on 20th March and my express mail was delivered on 24th. To my surprise, they processed it on the same day and returned the passports on 24th (yesteday).. express mail is in usps system and would be delivered on 25th..

Good job, CGISF!!!

I can second that...

Our documents were dispatched from Delhi on Feb. 26th. Our son had reservations to travel to Delhi on March 26th, so we figured there was plenty of time for docs to reach CGISF and then to send and receive our passports back.

When the documents didn't show at CGISF until March 10th we started to get anxious - whether to continue to wait for OCI docs, or apply for a short term tourist visa for our son. Being optimistic we held on and finally got an email from CGISF on March 12th that our OCI docs were in. I immediately mailed the passports to them (which they received on 13th) - with the copy of my son's itinerary and a request to expedite the return. They put our passports back in the mail within 3 working days and we got them back on March 19th. Happy ending!

Kudos to the OCI team at CGISF!
