Port of Entry

It was my first time to travel overseas using my US passport. I got my US citizenship Sept of 05.
When I arrived in Minneapolis (Port of Entry) the Immigration officer , asked me the typical question, where you’ve been, etc. etc. and double check all info. that I wrote in custom declaration form. Anyhow after that she told me to go the Immigration Office. I start to worry, The officer took my passport, pull a screen in the computer and asked me when I became a citizen, did I return my green card, and how long I’ve been gone. It seems like she is updating some info in the screen but I cant really tell. After close to 2 minutes she gave my papers back and said your all set.

Now I wonder, is this typical questioning a new immigration policy for new citizen? Is it a matter of updating your record in their data base? Does anyone have the similar experience?

Thanks in advance.

I have noticed isolated incidents similar to your right here on this forum. It appears that in most of the cases the individual's record is updated with naturalization information after they take the oath. However, sometimes, it falls thru the cracks and the info is not updated and thus they face this inconvenience at the airport. If you are equpped with this knowledge, it is not a big deal and you will take it easy. On the other hand it could be quite alarming to face such incident when you are not expecting any problems it you are detained (of course for a short while) by an immigation officer. I love this forum for this reason. People share their experiences and you are well equipped with the knowledge by being a participant. Hope your post will help somebody.
