Hi,

Could anyone please calrify the following?

To obtain Police Clearance Certificate while living in the US for Canadian Immigration, do I need to submit my passport to Indian Consulate?

If so, is there a way we can get PCC without submitting it? i.e by (personal appearance in the office etc.,)

Is it required to submit PCC at the time of submitting the Canada Immigration or can we also send upon request?

no need if you go personally

If you go personally to the consulate to both apply for and pick up the certificate and carry your passport both times you dont need to leave it there.
You can even get the certificate on the same day if passport was issued by that particular consulate. If passport issued from Passport office in India it could take 30 days.

It takes 45 to 60 days

Yes, it is better, if you can do India PCC with application. It also takes 45 days to 60 days. You can visit any India Embassy in USA. Apply for PCC ($20 charge) and it will take 45 days to verify. (Indian embassy guy will send/fax your application to India's city passport office, where your passport was issued). after 45 days of sending fax to India, if Indian embassy do not get anything wrong about you, they will call you and issues PCC($20 again). Total it takes 60 days. Total charge $40.

As fars PCC applying concern, your friend also can do it. As far as PCC receiving concern, your friend also can do it with having your original Passport. At the time of giving PCC to you/your friend. Embassy put stamp/note in your passport also.
