Police clearance certificate from Mumbai

Hi gurus ,
I have started the process of K1 visa processing . I have 2 queries .

A) Somewhere down the line I will need a a police certificate from Mumbai , anyone having idea what is the best way to go about getting that certificate in Mumbai ?
B)Also the consulate website says I need to get a certificate from passport office and one from local place of residence police station whereas from some other websites i have seen they are talking about obtaining police certificate from ALL the places in the country of nationality where i stayed more than 6 months (after the age of 16) .
Any idea which one is correct ??

We have not reached that stage yet. However, we plan to follow the instructions from Mumbai Consulate website and obtain 2 certificates
1. Passport Office and
2. The district police office serving the applicant's place of residence (we are interpreting as current place of residence.)

Based on what I have seen in this and consular forums that is what people have been doing.
