Police Certificate

I've lived in HK for 8 months. Do I need to take a Police certificate of HK for the CP interview? There are contrary things posted on the websites:

US CONSULATE BOMBAY
If the applicant has resided abroad since the age of 16 for periods of six months or more, then a police certificate might be required from that country, depending on which country it was. A full list of countries where police certificates are considered to be unavailable is at the National Visa Center web site.

DEPARTMENT OF STATE
IF the applicant lived in a different country for more than 12 months
AND was 16 years or older at that time
THEN the applicant needs a police certificate from the police authorities of that locality.

I know it is safer to take the certificate, but there are two major problems for taking the police certificate from HK:

1) Every applicant should attend in person to obtain the Certificate of No Criminal Conviction Office.

2) If no criminal conviction data against the applicant in Hong Kong is located, we shall issue a letter and send it directly by registered mail to the relevant Consulate / Immigration Authority within four calendar weeks.

Now, I don't want to go to Bombay (via HK) for the interview 4-5 weeks in advance to ensure that the HK Police Certificate reaches the Consulate in time. I just won't get that long a leave. Secondly, they send the certificate directly to the consulate & I don't know if I give them the US consulate Bombay's address, then it would reach the right hands so that the certificate can be traced at the time of my interview.

Please help guys. All suggestions are welcome.

Since you would be dealing with the Mumbai consulate, send them an email and seek their clarification.

Apart from this you need to research and find some posts with
actual experience about this. Search with some words like
'HongKong PCC' etc.

Hopefully you can get some useful information.
