How do you know your cases are with an officer ? Do lawyers have a different number than us? How do they find out that info ? Can the NCS customer service rep know if its with an officer or not?

I'll speculate here. I believe some lawyers, especially those at the largest, immigration only firms, DO have phone numbers that the public have no access to. In my case, there was a discrepancy between a paper approval notice, and information in the case status system that I had noticed for months. I called my lawyer, they called 'someone' and within 24 hours, the correct information was updated in the case status system. I also got a 'touch' on my 485 that day and an FP2 notice a few days later. I have to believe that 'certain conversations' can and do take place. But, again, I am only speculating.

My lawyer says
"I did file an inquiry on your case 2 weeks ago (emails are much more
efficient there than faxes). The response I received was that an officer
is working the case. They do not tell us how long it will take which is
standard."

The emails we know dont work. So I am not sure what she's talking about here. But I do know that my case was touched twice in the last month. So maybe what Wik says is decent speculation

i initiated a status enquiry on my case and received a letter from CIS saying that my case is with IIO. it also had the name of IIO at the bottom. it just mentioned give sufficient time for propcessing.

attorney's have a # where they can call and talk to duty officer. Duty officer usualayy tells abt case status.

My lawyer did the same type of thing and was told the same type of information.

Interestingly, my lawyer said that my case was with an office as of 5/24/04 but my last updated date was never 5/24/03 at any time.

The lawyer checked on 6/3/04 which is now my last updated date.

My lawyer told me (on 04/08/04) that my case going to be assigned to officer. Since then LUD changed 3 times. Last LUD is 04/28/04.
Couple of days ago lawyer notified that according to recent followup inquiry, case has been cleared name check and with IIO.

I am not sure how lawyer gets all information (fax or phone).

More than month passed since LUD. No approvals yet....
