Plz help:F2 to F1 conversion in India

My wife is on F2 visa.She is in US for almost a month now.She got admission with full financial aid for the MS program starting from Spring 2006. She does not have time to do the change of status in the US.After talking to my school's International Student Advisor, she suggested me to try from India (I am from India).
Can anyone suggest if this is a better way? If she goes for her F1 visa appointment and suppose she doesn;t get the F1 visa, will they cancel F2 visa too?
If someone has gone thru the same situation, please share your experience. It will be very helpful.

I think its better to change the status back in USA and begin the studies and then go to India for stamping. This way it should be much easier.
In any case when one goes for a new visa stamping, old visa is cancelled first.
