This is an excellent forum and thanks much to everyone's help.

I left the USA with a valid reentry permit and the validity of the permit finishes in August 2007. I will be visiting the US for 2 weeks in July 2007 with my valid reentry permit. I will be visiting the US again in Dec 2007 for 2 weeks only.

Question is:
Can I travel with my greencard only in Dec 2007(since the first reentry permit has expired by August 2007) and apply for a second reentry permit in Dec 2007? or, is it safer me to apply in July 2007 itself?

appreciating every one's help and looking forward to your words of wisdom

Depending on how often and long you've been out of US, your entry might not be ensured without one.

This should be obvious. But you'll have to return your present permit before you can apply for a new one.

Re-entry permit Question

My re-entry permit expired Feb this year. So it's like 3months already since expiry. Techinically I gave up my GC and I cannot be entered. It has been a very difficult decision.

Is there any possibility under any special clauses I can enter now to keep my GC.

Thanks

"If you stay outside the U.S. for more than one year and do not get a reentry permit before leaving, then in order to come back again, you must apply at a U.S. consulate abroad for a special immigrant visa as a returning resident. To get this visa you will have to convince the consular officer that your absence from the U.S. has been temporary and you never planned to abandon your U.S. residence. You will have to show evidence that you were kept away longer than one year due to unforeseen circumstances. Such evidence might be a letter from a doctor showing that you or a family member had a medical problem. If you do not have a very good reason for failing to return within one year, there is a strong chance you will lose your green card."
