Hi, I am working on Optional Practical training (F1) visa. I have family including a child, who was borned here in US. I am planning to process H1 application myself on behalf of my agency (they donot do). May I know, if I need to file the application for me alone and then for my family (excluding my child wo was borned here)? Any input is appreciated. Thank you very much.

Your employer must pay the $1000 training fee. You can pay everything else. Assuming you are in F-1 status and your dependents are in F-2 status, you would file the paperwork for a change of status to H-1 and your dependents would file the paperwork for a change of status to H-4.
