I had visited my local service center for an inquiry on my case status. After looking thru' the case the officer told that he has requested my case to be transferred to the local office and asked me to to come back after a month to check on it.

Now I see my online status reflecting that my case has ben transferred to the local office and the local office will schedule an interview.

Based on the response that I have seen on this website, it appears that it can take more than a year for the local office to schedule an interview.

So should I visit the local office after a month or wait till an interview is scheduled?

The problem for which I had visited the local office seems to be resolved. So if I decide to visit the local office, should I request that my case be transferred back to VSC?

What is my best bet here?

Will appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

Can you share more details regarding your visit to the local office - why did you go in the first place and why did the officer choose to request to be transfered there from VSC? I didn't know a local office can do that - I mean, request a case to be transferred to him from the service center. There must be a reason behind the transfer, right?

Just keep checking on it at the local office in person periodically. It takes about 4-6 weeks for the file to "arrive" at the local office from the service center.

Is your I-140 already approved? If so, I wouldn't suggest that you try to get the I-485 transferred back to the service center, since that will just add additional delays, and also increases the risk of your file being lost in their huge archaic filing system. If the I-140 is not approved, that is a different (and rare) situation.

The online processing times are not very accurate for local offices. They don't do a good job of reporting their case load to the public, especially employment based cases that were transferred from a service center, at least this was my experience at the Miami office after speaking with some officers there. The best way to judge how long it will take to get an interview scheduled is by asking others on this forum that had their files transferred to the same local office.
