Imp. Please help!

My husband and I had our AOS interview on July 12th. The officer said everything was ok and that we would get our card in the mail within days. He only had to do a quick name check in the system, which he would do himself. We asked him for a stamp in the passport and he said that at the Garden City, NY office they do not stamp passports as I would receive my card within days. It has been 30 days and no green card. And no change in status online.
I called USCIS this morning and they told me that since my case was now at the NY Field Office, it would take another year or so before I got my greencard as despite having the interview and clearance on everything, I would have to wait until my receipt date came up. That is ridiculous. My husband is a US citizen and our case was being processed at the National Benefits Center. Before applying for the I-485, we had applied for the I-130 and waited for a visa number to become available. they also have my biometrics etc. Also, in the past when I have called the USCIS cust. serv. #, with the I-130 they said it would take a year, we got approval in 6 months, the I-485 they said it would take 2+ yrs (Based on NYC timeline, even though our case was being processed at the National Benefits Center) to get an interview, we got it within one year. At this point there is so much contradictory information, I really don't know what to believe.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Was the officer at Garden City BS***ing us by telling us that they do not stamp passports there anymore? Even though I do know people whose passports were not stamped at Garden City and still got their greencards within 30 days.
Please help and advise on what I can do in this situation besides, wait!
Timeline:
Nov 03 - Filed I-130
May 04 - I-130 approved
July 04 - Filed I-765/I-485 (lawyer mailed to Chicago, file transferred to MO)
July 04 - Received EAD (1st)
Apr 05 - Applied for renewal EAD, received in May 05
Apr 05 - After applying for renewal EAD, received interview notice
Jul 05 - Interview at Garden City, NY
Aug 05- Confused and waiting! Seeking help!
