Stamping Experience in MN

Got to the INS office at 7:15 A.M.in the morning. I was probably around 75th in the line. You could reach earlier if you want. I recommend you not ot go on Monday or Thursday. It is usually very crowded.
Waited outside for about an hour.
Waited inside the building for an hour to get to the information desk (of course after security check). They check everything in your bag. So carry a small bag with you.
Got 2 photographs taken inside the building itself. I took 4 as a safety precaution.
The officer directed me to go to the 3rd floor and drop the I-485 approval notice in the drop box ( a small brown tray).
Go to third floor and take a left. You will find a lobby called INS waiting area. The room is filled with chairs and people might be waiting. The drop box I directly opposite to the door that you enter the room.
An officer will pick up the approval notice and call out your name. I was alone in the room.
Follow him to the office.
Give him the EAD, and passport and he will have your approval notice.
He will stamp the passport. They do not return the EAD.
It was pretty straight forward.
My belief is that you do not have to go to the information desk. You can go directly to the third floor and get it stamped and not wait in the line to get to the information desk.

Hope this helps
