Hello People

I just checked my online status today which says my I-140 and I-485 have been approved and an approval notice has been mailed today. I have to go out of country tomorrow......
1) Can I go out of country and reenter US using AP even though my I-485 is approved now ?
2) Is it okay to travel out of country when I-485 is approved and there is no GC stamping on passport ? Is theer any risk involved in doing so ? DO you happen to know anyone who has done this but still were able to reenter USA safely ??

I am really confused and dont know what to do. Would really appreciate if anyone can let me know about this.

Thank you all in advance

Yes, you can. You have AP and that is good for re-entry.

You don't need GC stamp, as you have AP. It's safe.

I believe you can travel on ur AP but wait for others to answer. I've read a similar thread where that person was allowed to enter on H1 even if 485 was approved.
Somebody who responded to that thread said "technically a person is no longer
in visa status the day 485 is approved" but the poster of that thread was allowed
to enter on H1 visa. I'm aware that you want to enter on AP which should be fine
as people are not considered abandoning their 485 if they leave the country
and in your case its just a online approval[you havent got the actual approval
in mail].

The immigration laws are NOT designed to be cruel for the purpose of finding any mistake or deviation by immigrants. The original poster "vidisha", did not even receive his/her approval letter. It could take another 1 week to receive it. And there are cases, when people are waiting for month (after approval) to get approval letter. Many immigrant don't even have internet access to receive instant status for their cases. How did people know their case status 10 years back, when there was no case status check available online? They had to wait for their "approval letter", right? Should people stop traveling when their I-485 is pending because that could be approved anytime? That defeats the very purpose of AP. This kind of border-lines situations (like prople got approved just before departure or got approved while traveling abroad) are always accepted (I have not heard any case otherwise).

BTW, the online case status or email notification! Even USCIS doesn't claim any responsibility for any data accuracy/inaccuracy (read their terms and conditions). So, how does one know whether his/her case status showing is correct and true? Therefore, until someone receives his/her approval letter by mail, he/she is not approved....officially.

was your comment directed towards me? I just told the poster that he/she can travel using AP. what comment posted by me was incorrect? where did I ask poster not to
travel? I agree with you that somebody is approved only when they get that piece
of approval notice in the mail and thats what I was telling the poster :) if u are
reffering to the "technical.." stuff in my post, well that was an extract from another thread posted by somebody under AP.

Hello People

Thank you all very much for all your replies.

Well finally I have decided to try my luck tomorrow morning by going to local CIS office early morning for passport stamping, I will try to get our passports stamped by showing them email approval print outs.

Well now I have one more question... Considering I get extremely lucky tomorrow and my passport gets stamped....is it okay/safe to travel outside US with just passport stamped or do I have to wait again till I get my plastic card.

Someone told me that if I travel outside US with just passport stamped, then airlines people might not allow me to board a flight to US. is it true ??

Thanks a lot in advance.

Absolutely ok to travel with stamping in ur PP. Infact one of the main reasons stamping is done is for travel and also as a proof of GC until u get plastic card.
