Hi,

I have a friend who has applied AOS in early 2003 from Atlanta. I myself have applied Employment AOS and so don't know much about the marriage based AOS. I wanted to check the status of my friend's case but my friend can't find the receipt number on the receipt that they sent after they sent in the AOS papers. What do I use to check the status?

Also, they said usually the A# is the same as some other number... but in their case, one digit is different. Is this a mis-understanding on my friend's part OR a mistake on the BCIS part?

Any input will be really appreciated.

Thanks a lot,
Niti.

Niti,

It's virtually impossible to check a family based AOS case status over the net. Such case status info is available at the local office which could be obtained in person or via the help of your local congressman. (assuming your friend filed at the local district office).

also the A# number mismatch maybe a manual error. Your friend can always go to the local office and get the needed info

Thanks for the reply.

My friend lives in Alabama and they had to file at Atlanta office... does that sound right?

Do you think that the A# mismatch would mess up their case cause the error might be in the system also and the local office would try to find a case using A# but there isn't any case that matches the number.

Thanks much,
Niti.

Alabama residents file at Atlanta thats correct.

I think your friend should go and verify the number in person at the atlanta office. I know it's a hassle but it's something that should be done to prevent a long term headache.

As for a local office pending case.. You cannot check it on the INS case status website. That feature is available to those cases which are filed at the service center.. with case numbers starting with TSC , EAC , MSC , CSC.
