I am trying to help my co worker.
He had applied for canadian immigration and was approved and asked to submit landing fee. Now he has received a letter stating that he needs to send his passport within thirty days for process completion. He is due to travel in a few weeks and will not be back for a month. What are his options.
How much time does it take to return the passport after stamping?
Can he travel in person to Buffalo to get the passport stamped.
 
He should write to Buffalo that he is going out of US so he needs passport for travel and will submit it once he is back to US.

I do not personaly know how many days they take to Stamp the passport and return it.

Better talk to them on phone and also send them Fax writing the request always write your File# and attach the copy of letter that you recieved for Passport stamping. also send request by mail return reciept that PP will be submited after you return to US.

Do you have the Phone # where they can be contacted. The # my friend has goes to an answering machine which states that no information will be available at this # and then specifies a fax # instead. He has already sent the fax and is awaiting response.

Normaly they do not pick up phone, and you can visit the site of Buffalo and find the ph# I dont have it handy
If he sent Fax and it was recieved that is fine, they will not reply to your friend and do not expect a reply from them that " Thank you we have recieved your fax" your duty was to inform and you did it. that is all, now go where ever your friend wants to go and when he returns he should submit the Passport for stamping.
If he wants he can also send registred letter to Buffalo with return reciept, but do not expect a reply.
