I hope somebody can answer this question.

One of my friend is on F-1 visa . A company sponsored him for H-1 visa for FY 2009. His name has been selected in the lottery and he is waiting for approval. My quesiton is can

He start working for this employer now? Or
He has to wait for approval. Or
He can start working from the H-1 start date which is october 2008.

Any helpful comment will be appreciated.
 
He has to wait for the October 1, 2008 H1 start date to work on the approved H1B. However, if he has an approved OPT, he may work on that.
