Hi everyone. Well i tried to go to visit my family in india unfortunately i didnt know that i needed a transit visa(for london) and couldnt get on the flight..I have applied now....but the problem is that I have only have i-551 (valid till next year stamp no green card for 6 months now. I also have a pending naturalization application. Will my stamp be enough to get the transit visa and travel thru london and no problems coming back? Please advice.

My understanding is that the stamp is your greencard (until you get it) and you can use it as such for travel, proving you are a resident etc. So, you should be fine.

The stamp is usually valid for a year and is usually put on there when you get your GC approval, right? So how come you are already in N400 process and you don't have your plastic card? I think you need the plastic at your interview...

i applied under 319 B for us military spouse. u need to have lpr status. which i do. only i havent recieved my green card. should i file i-90????????

when i went to my flight they said th at uk doesnt accept the stamp and i need a visa. thats fine. i just wanna know on my way back will i have problems leaving london airport as they dont regard my i-551 stamp??

The UK does not accept the stamp means that as a greencard holder, you STILL need a UK visa. You only don't need a visa to the UK once you are a US citizen.

That has nothing to do with your entry to the US.

Boatbod/Query11 will know better on the plastic question for your N-400 interview.

i guess u missunderstood. u know when they are checking u in they check ure passport to see if you have a visa. i will be gettin my transit visa.....i just wanna know if they will let me fly back to US accepting the i-551 stamp as my visa.....

My guess is that the US will let you re-enter with your stamp. The stamp is your green card. So, yes.

Yes, I did misunderstand your sentence "when i went to my flight they said th at uk doesnt accept the stamp and i need a visa" So, not sure where UK "accepting the stamp" even comes in...

I would also post this in the Greencard forum, which is more appropriate for this question (since it doesn't have anything to do with citizenship per se).

You will probably have better luck there.

Good luck.

The UK has been requiring transit visas for nationals of certain countries for 3-4 years now. This requirement is waived if you have the new biometric green card. If you still have the old pink card or the stamp in your passport you need to obtain a UK direct airside transit visa. Just because the UK does not accept the old card or the stamp for the purpose of waiving the transit visa rule, does not mean that they do not recognize your status as a US Permanent Resident.

thanks for ure replies......im more at ease now.....im just scared to death of getting stuck somewhere
