Please help.... very worried!

Hey,

I am on an H1-B visa, valid until mid-May 2008. I am in the process of applying for a green card, just starting the whole process. My lawyer seems optimistic about the whole thing, but I am concerned about the time, as I have only until May to file the application.
I also understand that I can recapture time spent abroad (I have spent around 2-3 months abroad in the last 4.5 years) in order to extend my H1-B visa beyond the 6th year.
I just wanted to ask how long it takes (approximately) from beginning to the actual date of filing the PERM labot certification.

Depends on how quick and motivated your lawyer is. For us, the decision to start GC was made in July 2006. We are still advertising, at least 2 months from filing PERM.

She is right...I have a friend who started the GC on Octomber 24/2006 and next week he is filing the I 140 and I485 steps(California).
We started together the process but my lawyer is lazy and we are still advertising. I hope to filing the Perm on April 9.....(New York).
