Please help SSN question!!

Hi All,

I am a new member to the community. I just came to USA and file for Social Secuity on Oct 1, 2008. The SS office gave me a letter saying that my SSN will arrive in 2-4 weeks. How long does it take to get the SSN? In the meantime my company cannot pay me the salary.

If you go to the SSA office the next day (after applying) they will give you your number, the actual card will arrive in 2-3 weeks. You can use that number to report to your employer.
