I am trying to bring my mother-in-law to US. But there is strange problem with her name. Her name is different on my wife's passport from her passport. On my wife's passport her middle name is missing. And my in-law's last name can be spelled in two different ways. It was spelled different on my wife's passport. I think this could be a problem when my mother-in-laws goes for stamping. Could you please give your advice in dealing with this problem..

Please look at the following example.

Name on my mother-in-law passport :
First name : "kumari" nirmala
Last name : "Ganguli"

Name on my wife's passport :
First name : nirmala
Last name : "Ganguly"

I truley appreciate your response

Thank you

Try to correct your mother-in-law's name as it's easy and risk free for you. Send your wife’s passport copy and request them to change the name per the daughter’s passport.

It’s very common error in our India names especially “I” and “Y” and 2 or more words. Send the passport to "name correction" to the office where it was issued earlier in India. It will take 2 to 3 weeks to correct it. Of course, there will be a fee for it.
