Please Help: Overseas Travel while Citizenship processing

Hello Everyone,

About 2 weeks ago we have applied for citizenship. Due to 'emergency' situation back home, we needed to travel overseas for about 4-6 weeks urgently.

* I am wondering whether I needed to get re-entry permit before commencing this travel ? Without re-entry permit would it jeopardise my citizenship application

* Do I need to inform USCIS about this travel now? Or should I wait till Interview time?

* What additional steps I needed to take to ensure the processing does not get negatively impacted.

I greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks

Really its no problem. You do not need a re-entry permit. You are a GC holder and thats how you will be travelling for 4-5 weeks. Ask someone to watch out for the Finger print appointment notice for you. Have a safe journey.

The answer to this should be on the "sticky" list as it gets asked soooooo many times! Yes, you can travel anytime you like during the process, just be aware that you might get a notice for fingerprints/interview/oath cerimony while you are out of the country, and if you are gone for a number of weeks you might miss an appointment, which would impact your citizenship process timeline and be a big hassle.

You don't need to inform USCIS until the interview of any travel (or the oath cerimony if you travel after the interview as I did). You don't need a re-entry permit or any other travel document so long as you hold a valid passport from your country of origin. You're a green card holder and as such can travel as you like using that and your original passport.

Cheers,
Brian

One of the citizenship application condition is "..(2) has resided continuously within the United States from the date of the application up to the time of admission to citizenship"

So does it mean I can not travel after I apply for citizenship until I get the approval?

I am scheduled to travel outside US for 3 weeks four days after I apply for the citizenship but not sure if I can do that. Any suggestions?
