My wife completed her oath today @Campbell (Finally). During her N400 process we changed her last name (to my last name). The naturalization cerificate has everything in order, but she did not get a name change order document indicating the change.

We asked an IO outside about the deal, she said the marriage certificate is a good enough proof of her last name.

Is it correct? I am bit worried because we have to do a hell lot of work now (SS, DMV, PASSPORT, BANKS, CREDIT CARDS etc.)

Whenever someone changes his/her name thru//during naturalization process, s/he MUST get a court decree for name-changing ALONG WITH Naturalization Certificate.

Why name change decree hasn't provided to your wife after the Oath then I don't know. They should have. There were two people previously, more than 2 yrs ago, both from California, experienced the same. They changed their whole name, but they were not provided any name-changed decree. And when they asked from immigration officials at the oath ceremony, they were given all kind of run-arounds. The naturalization certificate was in their new/changed name, but they weren't provided the Name-changed Decree which is a Court-Order. I guess that's what they do in CA...or probably in some cases....

Nevertheless, in your wife's case, there wasn't a need to change the name if she is only interested to have your last name. Why? Then Marriage Certificate alone would do the trick. By virtue of marrying, any woman can change her last name to her husband's last name...without the need of any name-changed Decree or court order. All she needs to do is-send/show everywhere her marriage certificate in order to have your last name to her. That's it.
