Hi,

I have applied for H1B visa this year(2007-2008) and got the receipt number from California service center. The case status is showing they need additional evidence. My consultant got a mail from USCIS asking for my original degree certificates and marksheets stamped & signed by my college register. Is it safe to send them the originals by post? Is there any other way out? Do USCIS accept notarized copies instead of originals?

Please help me if anybody (or anyone you know) has already gone through this type of situation. Getting H1B is very important for me since I am in US with H4 visa and can't start working without H1B. Please help..

Regards,
Moumita

Don't send originals. Send transcripts. These you can obtain from your college registrar. Basically, it is a photocopy of your documents but the registrar will stamp them and sign them and then seal them in an envelope and then sign and put a stamp on the envelope. Check with any of your friends who are doing/did MS in the US for more details.

This is very simple. While my degree was not from India, all you need to do is make a request from your University to send original stamped transcripts to USCIS. Send the university a copy of the Request for Evidence and tell them to attach it to the transcripts.

This is no different than if you wanted to transfer to a U.S. University and they asked for your transcripts. You would have to go through the same procedure and have it sent directly from the University in India to the one in the U.S.

The idea is that the transcripts never touch your hands so they can never be altered. This happens all the time and is nothing new.
