Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone could help out--I will apply for citizenship in October 2009, but in January 2010 I will be moving within the US but to an area that has a different District Office than where I will submit my application (currently living in NY, moving to VA). In my application, I will use my parents' address as my mailing address, and in January I will be moving to that address. Does anyone have any experience with changing your address during your the naturalization process? Does this cause delays? Any information would be much appreciated!

I filed my application in Detoit but moved to NYC before my interview. I flew back for my interview and will do the same for my oath this week.

Can you still have mail sent to NY address? Would you be able to attend interview in NY? Otherwise you may have to wait.

Strictly speaking, this is not allowed but one can pass off.

Yes, my current roomates will still be in the same apartment where I am now, so they can keep an eye out for any mail. Plus, I'm going to put my parents address down as my mailing address on my application so I'm not worried about missing any notices, etc. I can come to NY for my interview, etc, but I am a little concerned that this will be problematic... what are the risks?

I did this successfully. During the interview I updated my employment history and put down company address out of NYC. Officer looked at it and did not bother to ask any questions.
It's really up to you, however to be on the safe side its best to move to VA first and then file for Citizenship. You may apply from VA in January and by the time you get your interview letter you should have VA license/ID in hand. In he end you are losing only 3 months. It's no big deal.
