Please help- Can an entry be waived?

Hello,

My parents have received their greencard in India. But they thought the process would take much longer, so they are not ready to come within 6 months. Can their entry be waived/postponed for a year or so? What are the options?

Please please help me. Or if you could point me to the official rules on this. Thank you!

I presume they received their immigrant visas in India. They have no choice but to seek entry into US before the visa expires, which is 6 months from the date it is approved. If they do not travel within this time, they lose their visas and will have to start over again if they still seek to become LPRs. I strongly suggest that they make this trip and spend a few days in the US, receive their green cards in the mail and then go back to India to take care of any business there. If they plan to stay in India for over 1 yearafter receiving their green cards, they will need to apply for a Re-entry Permit before leaving US (which also involves another fingerprinting).
