Please guide me...(H1B Stamping)

My H1B was approved for this year with consular processing (at Toronto Consulate) since the lawyer had requested this during filing the petition. My petition was filed under the Advanced Deg. Category.

I had some questions on consular processing and I would really appreciate if somebody could answer.

I will be on OPT starting August 15th and as I understand my H1B will not come into effect until I go out of the country and get it stamped, since my case is consular processing.

Will I have to compulsorily leave the country before October 1 to get H1 stamping or can I still continue working on OPT even after October 1 and go sometime later to get my H1B stamped. Will this affect the H1B stamping process, since mine is a consular processing case.

I would really if some body could clarify??? Thanks for your answers.

You continue on OPT until you go for stamping. You should be prepared to demonstrate that the H1B job is still available if you delay the stamping for quite a while. Once you get stamping you will re-enter on H1B and will then no longer be on OPT.
