Hi Friends,
I have couple of questions. greatly appreciate your help.

1)If a person on H4, uses EAD to get the SSN, does it automatically mean that he used the EAD or he can still maintain his H4 status.

2)If a person can apply for H1 , who is using EAD.

I am sorry to say so, but most of the people misunderstood the use of EAD.

In US, you can have only three kind of legal status:

1. Citizen
2. Permanent Resident- Green Card (IMMIGRATION VISA)
3. Non Immigration Visa (H1, H4, Visitor and all others)

EAD is just a legal document from INS that allows you to work without any sponsership.
Any person who is on Non - Immigration Visa needs a SSN to work legaly in US. So after you get your EAD from INS, you need to have SSN. And when you apply for SSN that does not mean your Visa status will change. You will still remain on H4 or H1 or any other Non - Immigration Visa.

I hope this will clear your doubt.
