Hello,
I know this is not the right forum to ask this question. However, this is the most active forum and with the biggest knowledge base ? Please advise me on changing the status from B1(visitor visa) to F1(student visa).

Thanks,
Kevin

What is the Question?

Kevin, weren\'t you active on this forum earlier? Is it for you or some one you know?
Any way... from Visitor to Student change is tricky.
Visitor visa application has a item about "intent to Study in the US". If you had marked no to that and now in US you want to transfer to F-1. There should be a sufficient lag in your applying for Studnet visa after coming to US on tourist visa. You might be in visa violation if you cannot show that your intent at the time of coming to US was not that of study here...else you should have applied Studnet Visa in the first place.
However this "no study" intent can change after some time in US...
What is the number of days that can support your change in intent? I am not sure.
I would suggest talk to an immigration attorney as rules might have gotten stricter after 9/11

Patta Hara.....

Yes, Patta Hara,
I am active on this forum....I am going through the CP process. This question is for some one I know, who is not that technically inclined or proficient about the internet. She is a doc...a dentist. She came to the US on a B-1 visa. She has since been admitted to a dental school here in the US and I am trying to get info. on the risks involved on changing the status. Her Univ. will apply for the change of status from B-1 to F-1 but they are saying that this process could take about 14 months. But that she can start studying as soon as the application for change of status is filed. The Univ. representative is saying that she will be legal in the US once the application is filed.

If you have any info. please let me know.

Thanks,
Kevin
