Play safe or be agressive

I used to live in US on H1-B. I went to live and work in India starting January 2002. Then in September 2002 I received my greencard by consular processing.I moved back to US on January 1 2004. Between Sept 2002 and January 1, 2004 I made trips to US to make sure that I do not ever stay away from US for more than six months. However my residency was really in India till Jan 1, 2004

Ever since January1 2004 I have been living continuously in US (barring couple of weekly trips abroad). So it has been more than 3 years of continuous stay in US.

Can I file for citizenship now due to the fact that i got my greencard about five years ago?
Or should I play safe and do it only around January 2009?

Realistically, you'll need to wait until Jan 2009 (less 90 days), because most IOs have excellent ability to sniff out residency troubles.
