When are you planning to go for H1B stamping? I am planning to go in mid-March. Let me know if you are planning at the same time.

Hi Sagar,

I am going in the 1st week of April. Things I noted when I started getting my appointment through nvars site are, all the mid of the week days are booked. Only the days close to weekend (monday, friday) are available.
At present I am planning to fly to Seattle and drive from there.

Hi

I could like to now ,if other countries nationals can go to canda and get stamping done. can we get the new visa stamp there or must we already have the visa for which we are applying?

Hi Anand,

I am not sure about your question. But this is what I have understood. Say take H1, you have to apply for a H1 here and to get it stamped you have to apply it outside US.

Hi
I am going to canada somtime late march and probably planning to fly to Vancouver, since now going through road or flying to Vancouver doesn't make any difference and in any case you are not allowed to enter us without valid H1 stamp

Hi Kcs503b,

can we apply for H4 stamp in canada if we already are not having one,i.e a new h4 stamp.

hi Anand,

I am not sure about that. You can address your question one Mr Jaxen in this site, you give pretty good advice

Hi Sagar,

Are you sure they do not allow you inside, both on road and by air?. I heard if you come back in 30 days you are allowed.

Hi Jaxen,

do please advice. Because this will help me to plan accordingly.

got my H1 stamped in Vancouver

Hi guys,

I got my H1 stamped in Vancouver.
I had not recieved my Appointment Letter. I called the 900 number atleast 6 times (total cost $70). Finally one gentleman told me that, they will fax the letter if I had'nt recieved it till 2 days before my appointment. But in case of Vancouver, they won't fax. But it is ok if I have the online appointment reference number. So this reference number was enough, and nobody insisted, both at the border as well as the consulate.
From the Seattle airport I took a bus to Vancouver - www.quickcoach.com
At the border they asked me few questions, checked my I-797, canadian visa, how long I am going to stay.
I had an appointment at 8.30
They ask you pay the 100$ cash first.
Then you have to go to the visa officer. She asked me about my OPT (I am changing from F1 to H1). When I graduated, how long I have been working for this current employer. I had a gap between my OPT time and the time I applied for my H1. She asked me about the gap and I told her it is was the Grace period. Actually after the Practical training is over there is a grace period of 30 or 60 days ( I am not sure). The the thing is she did'nt go through the documents much, since I had all the documents, I was able to provide whatever she asked, looks like she was impressed.
She gave my passport along with my I-797 and asked to pay the reciprocity fee at the top floor.
There since the cashier did'nt have change he asked me to pay by credit card.
I got my passport at 3.00 pm.
There is a public car parking lot opposite the consulate, they charge CAN$2.50 for 1/2 an hour.
While coming back at the border they checked the visa and took the old I-94 and asked me staple the new I-94.
Thanks for the guidance guys. And a special thanks to Jaxen

Hello-

Any one had recent experience of H1-B re-validation from Toronto?

Kindly post your experience in detail.

Thanks,

Sali

Questions about Vancouver

Hi Sagar, kcs503 and anyone else who can answer some of my questions about the Vancouver consulate:

1.Did you get a multiple entry visa?
2. Did they ask you for any originals? I suppose you don’t submit originals, only copies at the window.
3. Did you get the visa the same day Sagar?
4. Where exactly is the consulate, is it in downtown Vancouver?

Also about getting your Canadian visa, can you share the details for that as well.
a. Did you send your appointment letter sent by the consulate, as evidence of reason for travel?
b. How long did it take for you to get the Canadian visa?

Thanks for your help

S

RE: shefali

Hi!
I can answer some questions, although my husband decided not to get the stamp in Vancouver anymore because we think it's too risky to do that. We are not covered with anything (AP or unexpired former visa) to risk not coming back in case they perform that random check and he is stuck there for who knows how long.
But, I've inquired and

4. the American Consulate is on the North part of the island, not far away from the airport, as it looks from the map.

a. My husband didn't send any appointment letter to the Canadian Consulate, but he sent all the other documents that they recquire on their website. (Los Angeles consulate): employment letter, letter from the boss to tell the reason for going to Canada, bank statement, pay stubs, copy of current I-94 and we don't remember for sure if he also sent copies of the recepit notice of I-485, a prepaid slef-addressed envelope.
b. He sent the documents through Express Mail on Thursday afternoon from N. California and got the passport with the visa back on Saturday morning. (USE only USPS, they won't send the documents back with any other express courier)

Good luck if you go there and let us know how it went.
Bic

P.S.

He also sent copies of the H1B notice of action (approval of H1b's extension) because Canadians require proof of status in the US.
