I am planning to step out of the country to China and work with my existing company office in China. I would like to apply for L1-A on my return to USA.

Here is my plan, let me know if I am on the right track
1) The company is big and reputed in IT.
2) The office in China is a branch office of the parent company
3) I would be compensated in USD while in China
4) I am currently a senior manager, manager in china and will come back as mgr.

It looks like you have everything in place to apply for an L1a visa after having worked at least a year for the company in China. I'm not sure what your plans are for the future, but you might want to discuss with the company's lawyer about the possibility of applying for a greencard already while you are outside of the US. Many greencard positions are for opportunities in the future anyway. Also, the cost of applying for L1 probably covers already about half the cost for the greencard.

Thank you for evaluating my scenario.

Could you elaborate on applying for green card?
- My lawyers have applied for labor last month for future green card (EB-2)
- Doesen't L1-A entitle me to apply for green card without labor?
How does this all work together in terms of green card planning?
