Hi all

I need some advice here on citizenship. Here are the details

1. I got my Green Card in August 2005
2. I am planning to move to India somewhere in 2008 end but still want to be eligible for my citizenship.

What are some of the things that I should be doing? Here are my thoughts

a. Keep my mortgage in the US - to show ties
b. Keep coming into the country every 5 months and stay for a couple of weeks (since they want that in the last 5 years I should have no trip greater than 6 months outside the united states)

It will be great if you can comment on this and provide other insights.

Well, if you are moving to India for good in 2008, you are probably out of luck. Even if you exactly satisfy the rules for the naturalization process, but you don't satisfy the spirit of the rules, there's probably an excellent chance that the USCIS will deny you.

Read the "Guide to Naturalization" (available from the USCIS site)

Never think about moving abroad on a green card. It's called abandoning your green card. Working abroad, on a temporary work assignment with a clear ending date, you may be able to pull it off what you are thinking. Even in that case, I suggest you have an attorney on you side to represent you.
