PL Help!! Reg travel with existing visa and new petition

Hi,
Can anyone pl give confirmed information/experience that it is indeed possible to travel to the US using an existing valid visa (from old employer) and the new petition (from current employer)?

Pl let me know - this is critical...

Ok..now I am completely confused by the whole thing after I made an inquiry with the following

- Lawyer says I CAN travel with existing visa and new petition
- Mumbai and Kolkata Consulates say I CANNOT
- Delhi and Chennai Consulates say I CAN
- I even called up the USA CBP (Customs and Border Protection) and they said I CANNOT.

Can anybody share their experiences on this please?
