Can anyone give me the number or a contact for the indian embassy regarding PIO card application status? I have been leaving messages and sending email to the consul but no response yet. Seems like they are on ignore mode.

Try this # 212-774-0600. Keep your receipt handy when you call.

No use

I have been trying that number for the past 3 days. It goes to an answering machine. I have left messages and emailed them, but no use. They should shutdown their website !

This is not the correct forum for such issues.

Try sending emails / faxes to Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi with a copy to Indian Ambassdor to US in Washington. Maybe it will wake them.

Send emails to major Indian Newspapers (In India) also.

Write to "New York Times" to do a story. It appears that Indian Ambassy pays more attention to this newpaper and of course, all Indian major newspaper will follow the story.

Got PIO Card

After leaving so many messages and sending so many emails nothing happened. So i had to personally go and request for the PIO. While doing the inquiry the lady said, your PIO will be sent by mail today. I said, why don't you give it to me since i am here already. She said in that case you will forfeit your $15 for express mail. I said i don't care...i need it now. Finally i got it. Moral of the story. If traveling to India within 10 days and need a PIO...DO NOT MAIL IT. Go there personally !
