Howdy Guys,

I am looking at the document requirements to obtain a PIO card. As per the PIO Instructions sheet, one needs to submit "Proof of permanent address in India as per Indan passport" (Requirement number 5).

Does anybody know what this means? Ie does one just have to send in the passport as proof of the address (if the address hasn't changed) or does one need to send some other documentation in addition to the passport?

Thanks in advance.

The safest way is to call up the Indian embassy or Consulate nearest to you. They are generally helpful over the phone. It is better than guessing.

They don't ask for any proof for permanant address. Just write the correct address in the form. They don't care.

Yes, you need to send a copy of your expired/cancelled passport with your application. If your passport is not cancelled, you may need to send your original old Indian passport for cancellation with your application.

Well, think about it. How can you have a permanant address in that country if you are not a citizen of that country and don't even have a travel document to get inside that country.
