For those waiting for their applications to be processed from the Indian consulate in Chicago here is an update.
For PIO the email contact is vc@indianconsulate.com (new)
For OCI the email contact is pic@indianconsulate.com (no change)
The PIO application processing took little over a month, the application was received by the consulate on April 20, 2007 and we received the PIO card on May 26, 2007. Typically PIO applications used to take 3 weeks to be processed but as indicated in some other posts, because of huge influx of applications backlog has increased resulting in increased processing times.
But the consulate general of India, Chicago has been very responsive to all my email queries and for the PIO application I had sent a Priority Mail self-addressed-stamped envelope with the old postage rates, the CG affixed the difference between the old and the new rates for Priority Mail (55 cents) and sent me the PIO card.
Hope this information will be useful for some of the folks in this forum.
