2.5 years ago I started working under a national interest waiver as a physician in an underserved area. The i-485 based on this EB 2 category is pending fulfillment of the 5 year requirement. However I got married to a US citizen and we have filed another I-485 based on approved I-130. has anyone had a similar situation as myself? I know this is rare but i was just wondering. If so was wondering what your experience was like.

Yes, one person can have two parallel GC applications pending and whichever is approved first will result in your green card. At that time, you (or spouse) can simply write a letter to the USCIS withdrawing the other one.

Many years ago, I had an employer sponsored application pending but I was laid off (I was eligible to switch jobs at that time under AC21), but still just to make sure that there were no hassles, my citizen wife filed another petition to sponsor me. My employer based GC still came first and then we withdrew the other one (it costs us close to a thousand bucks but it was worth it since it reduced the anxiety).
