do i have to be board certified to get Nevada state license
Hi Raj
I am about to sign a contract for J-1 waiver position in Nevada.. I am in my 3rd year residency . Do I have to be board certified to be able to get Nevada state license.. If YES does it mean I wont get state license until after october 2007 ( thats when the boards are) .. I am really confused about this .. Please help me

You need 3 years (residency) exp before getting licensed in Nevada, ( http://www.fsmb.org/usmle_eliinitial.html ). No state requires board certification for licensing.
You typically need to be 'board eligible' (-->finished residency in good standing) in order to get hospital priviledges and malpractice insurance for your specialty. Both expect you to become board certified within 2 years after starting work.
For the license you need usmle 1-3 and depending on the state 1-3 years of residency.

1) My wife is on J-2 and has EAD thru that , what wil happen to her EAD when I get J1 waiver, ( iknow I would have to get H-1 before I start) will she be converted to H4 after that ,, or will continue as J-2 EAD until I complete my 3 yrs at work with my J1 -waiver employer
2) I am plannning to start J-waiver job in july 2007 and applying for J-1 waiver process now. Can myself and my wife travel out of country ( to india in May) with a valid J-1 visa , during the J-1 waiver processing.

once you get your H1B, your wife needs her own visa or can be a dependent on H4. if she wants to work, she will have to get her own H1B.

if you travel out of the country once you have applied for an H1B status change, your request for status change becomes invalid. prior to applying for H1B, you are in J1 status.
