I'm a Canadian physician potentially coming to the US for my residency training under a J1 visa. My fiancee is also a physician and we wanted to know if she would have any problems working under a J2 visa. I've looked into physician employment and in general you need to write USMLE Steps 1-3 in order to apply for a visa, even if the state you're moving to recognizes the Canadian licensing exams. Will she still have to write all the USMLE steps or by having the J2 visa does she automatically have the right to apply for medical licensure in a state and work?
