While applying for for pcc at indian cousulate can we just send photocopy of Passport /visa etc along with application and send original passport later on to get PCC stamped once it is ready.

Will it work?

Has some one done that before?

So that passport does not stay with chaotic cosulate for long.

Yes. I have done it with CGI, Houston as recent as last week. They mentioned to send the original passport after 45 days of sending application plus fees along with another with USD15.00 (courier charge).

Here is an excerpt of the correspondence with CGI, Houston, in this regard:

Dear Mr. XYZ,
Both your proposals are O.K. But while sending your application , please attach a letter with it to this effect so that your application is not returned unprocessed.

Regards,

Subject: RE: PCC Application

Dear Consul,

I would need a Police Clearance Certificate from CGI Houston for the purpose of Immigration. I understand that PCC would be issued after obtaining clearances from India, which may take more than 30 days.

1. Would it be OK to send the original Passports after the clearance from Indian Authorities is obtained at the Consulate at Houston so that the PCC can be issued to me?

2. Can I send the application with photocopies of Passports and VISA along with the application form and fee?
