Phone call after detention

After ICE detained an illegal alien for immigration violation does ICE let the person make a local call phone? Is it free? Or he only allowed making collect call?

I'm not sure but it should absolutely be allowed under the US Constitution. I would expect it would be collect, like in prisons.

A phone call that's allowed. But it may be upon the discretion of the admitting officer too. Contact the holding facility and ask them how to setup the collect call service. I believe they go for $1.5 or something per minute. My understanding is that you have to put in a deposit.

Once ICE takes someone into custody, they have to allow a person a free phone call to anywhere in the United States. A person is allowed to make a call of 3 minutes, longer if the officers allows.

Once at the jail, a inmate has access to a phone system that allows him to make sure free calls (not friends or family) and other calls are placed in the jail like anyone else being held. Mostly these are collect or they buy a calling card. The biggest problem for aliens is having family members who have told their phone service providers to block collect calls.
