Petitioning an R1 visa to permanent resident

Hi. My mom filed a petition for me and it has been recently approved. It is unclear to us what this means: Parent of US Citizen, 201 (b) INA. I'm here in the US with an expired R1 visa but my I-94 is until 2018. We would like to know how long will be the process for us and if my status would change into a student visa since the school that I will be enrolling to said that they have to change my status, will it affect the ongoing petition? I'm over 21 by the way.

That sounds wrong. "Parent of US Citizen" would be if your child petitioned you.

That is according to I-797 form they sent us. They got the petitioner and beneficiary right though. What should be my case then? Should I inform USCIS?

I think they got it right though since I am being petitioned by my parent who is a US citizen.
