Perplexed By I-140 Approval Notice

On October 11, 2000 my I-140 was approved in the category EB1-OP/R. I am happy
that it was, but I am bit perplexed by what the notice of approval says. My research
says that all EB1 cases are current, however the approval notice says my priority
date is 2/9/00. Why is there a priority date if EB1 cases are current? Did INS make
an error or am I missing something here ? Also, the approval notice included an
alien #---what does this mean ? Does it mean that a visa number is available and I
can file my I-485 right away or will I get another notice when a visa number becomes
  available ? Please help.

Everyone has a PD....period. Your priority date is when you first apply for LC (or II40 if you don\'t need LC). Whether it\'s current or not is a another matter. If it is current, you may file I485. They won\'t tell you if it\'s current - you\'re supposed to know if it is or not. You can check this and many other web sites for priority dates. Everyone gets assigned an "A" number.
