Permanent Resident: Travel abroad for work ..

I would appreciate it if I could get some input on this situation.

I recently got my Green Card through my previous employer. I was laid off recently.

I have an open offer to start working directly for the client and to be based in Europe. They currently have a marketing office only in the US.

I would not like to jeopardize my recent Permanent Residency status in anyway. I am still looking for a job in the US.

In the meantime I would appreciate any help with these questions:

1. Am I allowed to accept a job (same type as before) with the US office (Marketing only) of the European Company and travel to Europe for work based on my US Permanent Residency?

I understand additional paperwork will be needed for the European work permit (eg. intra-company transfer employee).

2. If yes. Do I need to return in 6 months time?

3. Will there be any issues during the application for citizenship in 5 years time?

4. What are the other pros and cons with this option?

Thanks in advance.

Another option is to find whether your job qualifies for N-470. For this to apply, your US based office needs to say that you are being transferred abroad to try & promote trade / train others abroad. This coupled with the re-entry permit will allow you to live abroad. But the tenure abroad will still count for your citizenship. BTW, joef & others, please post if you happen to know some more information on this clause.

Thanks Arun. I downloaded the N-470 form. The "Important Information" section states:

An applicant is not eligible unless (1) he or she has been physically present and residing in the United States for an uninterrupted period (that is, without any absence whatever) of a least 1 year after lawful admission for permanent residence, and ....

This means I would not be eligble for N-470 since I recently became a PR. Right??

I am not sure if they enforce this though. My bro-in-law (last year of studies) and in-laws keep getting 2 year extensions to stay abroad from the day they became PR 4 to 5 years back. I\'ll check with them regarding the exact forms etc.

I am in a very similar situation within 1 year of getting gc . having been laid off for the past 8 months I now have an job offer in europe. My main concern is to keep the gc active. realize the best way to do this is thru the reentry permit that will be good for 2 years. I would sincerly appreciate any feedback from others regarding this process. I am also struggling whether to keep the family behind or have them join me in europe at the end of the school yr. I heard that one can qualify to file for citizenship after 4 yrs and 1 day. is this true. please gurus post your suggestions greatly appreciate and thankful for that
