PERM Extended Time

Hi:
I applied PERM last year and I was supposed to get a decision last month. Before the deadline, the labor dept asked for more evidence which I mailed to my lawyer. My lawyer recently told me that he extended the time for no reasons. Can a lawyer extend the PERM time period? Anyone experienced the similar thing?

Thanks in advance.

There is no deadline for PERM processing. If you are talking about the 45-60 day turnaround promised by DOL, that is just a benchmark, which is true more for Atlanta than it is for Chicago. Can you provide more specifics please? What do you mean that your attorney extended the deadline?

I believe you are talking about extension of deadline to file audit response. The deadline to respond is 30 days but DOL allows one discretionary extension. I believe if your lawyer has a reason to extend the deadline, he/she can get it extended. Obviously you can not do it without reason. You might want to check if the lawyer is not satisfied with your response to the query and is buying some more time to file stronger response ot maybe they could not get all the papers ready in time to mail the response.
By the way, I did not get what do you mean by "supposed to get decision"? DOL does not have any deadlines to resolve your PERM...
