Hello pcee, rsrgc:

first of all, let me thank you for your efforts.

do you guys have any tool to calculate the FP-to-Approval times from the database you have created? If you have the tool, can you please run it and post the results?

I did my FP in March - I am trying to figure out how long it will take to get my approval....

thanks,
wudan

No Title

wudan,

Finishing FP is a requirement but not a fulfilling condition. I mean in the final stage of AOS to assign a case FP must be done and all background checks completed. But it doesn\'t mean that if FP process is complete so the case will be assigned immediately!

As several people on this board explaned several times, it is not meaningful to say that it takes "n" number of days from FP to get approval (not any more). It was a "kind of" predicting factor app. 6 months back when service center use to issue FP notices only when it is just about time to adjucate the case. If you talk to a friend or a lawyer who doesn\'t know any thing about what is going on currently with INS processing then they may convince you that it takes app. n number of days from FP date.

Right now INS improved this FP thing a bit and doing it a bit differently. Cases filed on or after may 1st 2001 FPs are scheduled on the same day ones receipts are issued. The scheduled date is based on local ASC (based on where applicant lives) and their RD. As several people pointed out some people living in and around LA got their FP notices with in app. 20 days of filing I-485 and people in San Jose has to wait app. 5 months to get FP notices but in both the cases approvals are coming in based on the month of their ND. As far as I observed right now INS is approving cases of Sept. ND. Note that people filed in July, Aug and Sept got Sept ND. (Receipts got delayed and then INS added more staff and as of Oct 1st week they eliminated all mail room mail log... thats another long story).

By the way if you still insist that approvals are based on FPDone date and you want to calculate FP-to-Approval time then you can calculate that time very easily! Just goto approvals page in summary lists and copy and paste that data into a spread sheet and using spread sheets functionality calculate difference between those two columns and see for yourself.

Thanks for the explanation Pcee!

I hope you are right about INS working on Sept ND!!! coz my ND is in Sept.
I was thinking that since I did my FP on Mar 15, I might need to wait for a looooooooooooooong time before getting approval.....but if what you\'re saying is true, I might just need to wait a long time (note the number of "o"s :-) ) before getting the approval! :-)
Thanks for the prompt response!

You have done ur fp on March 15 and so I feel it will take u
between 8-10 weeks from March 15th

In some cases (very rarely ) people have been adjudicated in 3 weeks from fp

So - Bottom line it varies case by case

but if u want to generallise - 8 to 10 weeks it is

Not really rsrgc...

I had done my FP on 11/06/01. So if you do your math, its 21 weeks past already. My processing resumed on 1/4/02 and when I spoke with IIO, she said the FBI Investigation report was completed on 2/12/02.

My details are:
PD: 2/99
WAC-01-283-58xxx
RD: 8/8/01
ND: 9/14/01
FP: 11/06/01 (was scheduled for 12/4/01)

Tonyjohn, the gist of what PCee and rsrgc said was...

As PCee pointed out there is no set number of days for adjudication from the FP done date. The FP is a just a very important milestone that needs to happen before your case becomes adjudication-ready. Once a case becomes adjudication-ready, it gets moved to a shelf reserved for cases of that month of RD/ND. The cases wait on that shelf until they are assigned. They will get assigned only when there are no more adjudication-ready cases on prior months\' shelves or before this case in that months\' shelf. With the new FP scheduling system you will notice that folks who are not in the San Jose area will get FP notices and complete their FP\'s a few months before they are actually assigned. They really hurry up and wait like that sports car who shoots off when the light turns green and comes to a tire-burning screeching stop at the next red. Your Accord or Camry will coast to a stop right behind it and also wait for the same light to turn green. The light turning green is the driving equivalent of your month ND cases starting to be assigned. It really does not matter when you do your FP as long as it is sufficiently in advance to enable your background check to be completed and for your case to be adjudication-ready.
What rsrgc said was based on a case whose FP was done on March 15. Importantly, the ND of the case is Sept. Sept ND cases have already started to be assigned and approved. The 8 to 10 weeks rsrgc suggested was to give the case enough time to become adjudication-ready. Even though you did your FP in Nov 01 you are in the classic hurry up and wait mode. My case was July RD and Aug 29 ND. I did my FP\'s early in Nov 01. My case got approved in mid march 02. So, my case had to wait for over 4 months for approval. However, there were cases with comparable ND as mine did their FP in Jan-Feb 02 and got approved around the same time as my case. Do you get the picture?
