Pending I-485 and Passport Expiration - cross posted

I have I-485 pending (RD 02/27/2004) and my passport will expire in about 6 months.

1. At the time of I-485 adjudication, does an expired passport raise RFE? Anybody had such experience?

2. Has anyone proactively sent renewed passport to USCIS while I-485 is pending?

3. Does USCIS approve I-485 anyway, you only need to have a current passport at the time of GC stamping?

Given the long waiting, I'm afraid quite a few people had their passport expired before I-485 is approved.

Don'ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt worrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy . If you applied ur EAD renewal recently then your 485 RD is currently processing then no problem otherwise , they will see if ur passport is valid or not .Because when I applied for EAD and AP renewals , I sent both old passport and new passport. That is enough. Otherwise you can send them ur new pasport and copy of 485 to the service centre . Remember , the address are different while appying and when you update them with some info .So keep cool . you r case will approve

My 485 Pending since 04/03/2003... My passport expires in Oct 2004. In July I applied for new Passport and I got new Passport.

I dont think it will cause any problem, once your 485 approved, you can take new passport along with old one ( in case if they ask you can show them), and you can get stamped on new Passport.

You can renew the passport anytime up tp one year after the expiry date. Go ahead and renew it. Your new passport will have the old passport number and they will return your old passport with a note saying any active visa/stamping in the old passport is still valid. This shouldn't trigger RFE. Mine is expiring end of this month and I got renewed last week. It is one day job if you go in-person in NYC. Submit in the morning and you can collect the new passport in the evening.
