PD vs Receipt Notice Date

Hi Guys,
I am new in this forum. I was reading a few threads here and got totally confused.

I was following https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/Processtimes.jsp?SeviceCenter=Texas site to see if they are close to process my I-485. That list is based on receipt notice date. Now many people are talking about priority date. On my I-140 approval notice I see a priority date as November 17, 2003. we filed concurrent so I assume that is my priority date.

Now my questions:
1. why is the pority date important?
2. following the case based on the link I gave above is really useful or not?

Thanks

Priority date is a mechanism which allows USCIS to clear the backlogs and
work with the I485 cases in a streamlined fashion (Or better yet, make
non-immigrants to bite their nails tip to toe and create tension/stress
so they become desparate). PD is important from the point of
applicant like you and me in the sense that our cases will be taken up
for processing (if applied concurrently before PD took into effect this
January) if the PD is current and in cases where applicants
who didn't file their I485 yet will have to wait till their PD is published by USCIS.

In your case (unfortunately), the AOS will be taken for processing
(from the stage it is now) after USCIS announces the PD of 11/2003.

Keep your fingers crossed. Good luck

Thank you very much for reply, what is the current PD published? Where can I track it.
I am still not clear where they use PD and RD. My I-485 RD is 06/23/2004, PD is 11/17/2003, USCIS is processing 02/04/2003 bas on the processing date site, so does that mean I should be waiting almost a year and half. I also just got first FP notice at 03/302005, I will be doing that.
