Myself and my wife are scheduled for an interview on July 07 at Chennai, India for an Employment based green card interview with me as the primary applicant while she is a dependent of me. We are currently in US.

We(Myself/My wife) have Police clearance certificates issued from Indian consulate in US which were issued 7 months back. It should be noted that I am in US currently and have been in US continuously for more than 2 years now though my total stay in US has been about 10 years and have never stayed in any other places apart from India , US. While my wife also is in US and has stayed continuously for 10 months in US now and totally for 2.5 years in US and the only other country she has stayed is India. Under this scenario,Will that Police Certificate clearance alone be enough (ie Police clearance certificates issued from Indian consulate in US which were issued 7 months back) and will it be accepted by the Chennai consulate for the above interview. Is there anyother Police certificate clearance that we have to get from Regional , local offices in India for the above interview?

Can someone also share the experience with regards to this at the Chennai consulate recently on it?

rrajendr,

Not sure when is your interview and I hope it's not too late..

I am in sort of same situation, except the fact that I left US in 2003 and in Canada since.. all I did was got a PCC from the local Indian consulate.. and the PCCs are valid for one year..

I guess PCC should have atleast 6 months validity at the time of interview. That is what I heard from US Embassy, Chennai.

This is what they replied:

"PCC is valid for 1 year from the date of issue and must be vlid for 6 months at the time of interview.

Hi
Thanks for your replies. I believe PCC's are valid from 1 year from the date of issue (from Pkt 4 instructions) and hence my PCC from Indian Consulate in US should be valid. The question I have is, will that PCC(from Indian consulate in US) alone be enough or do I have to get PCC from local and regional offices in India also for our Employment based consular processing interview at Chennai. It is kind of urgent, could someone please answer the query.

Hello Rajendra,
The PCC from the Indian Consulate would be enough. It is valid for a year and since its been only 7 months it itself is valid.
Since you have lived outside Indian for a period of more than 6 months you only need the PCC from the consulate and there is no need to get one from the Passport office or local Police.

The wording in packet 4 is clear.
You need to get a PCC from every country you have stayed in for more than 6 months. If that country happens to the US then all you need is the PCC from the Consulate.
Indian Nationals who are currently residing outside India don't need the local police Office certificate.

Note the PCC from the Consulate has to be valid for the US.

what would that be? I know it's too late for me to change anything but still I am wondering.. I got my PCC from Indian embassy in Canada.. that is where I live

The PCC I got from the Indian Consulate in NY states that the PCC is valid for Visa applications to the US. When I applied for the PCC they asked me for which country and why I needed the PCC. They also stamped my passport with a PCC issued Stamp.

Maybe its something the Consulates in the US do.

In Toronto, all they gave me is this,

There is no adverse information in respect pf <my name> son of <father's name> holder of (passport no> issued at <place> on <date> which would render him ineligible for grant of travel facilities including visa for USA.

this is all I got. No stamp on the passport. May be busier US consulates have a format and a process different than this.

But I believe this should work too.
