Is PCC from local police station from India valid for canadian immigration?

My wife and I currently live in USA. Chicago consulate takes more than 45 days for PCC application and we don't have that much time. I've looking at other options like getting it from local police station from India.

Nope. You cant get the certificate from local police station. The certificate must be attested by commissioner of police. You can also get it from passport office where you have applied for passport.

I got them in 1 week from DC

I have submitted the application for PCC at Indian embassy, Washington D C personally. They charged me $40 for each passport. But they gave me PCC in 1 week.

Was your passport issued by the same consulate/embassy ? I think if the passport was issued more than 5 yrs back from the same consulate then you get PCC in a week else they issue only after they get clearance from RPO (Regional Passport Office) in India that issued the passport - which takes around 45 days.

PCC from Houston

I have applied for PCC thru Houton. Mailed the docs on Nov26,06. Have no reply yet!-wonder if anybody has experience in dealing with the Houston for PCC.

Thanks

But as long as pcc is from comissioner/sp police in India its valid correct? even if you live in US, you dont need to go thru the consulate here where they may hold your passport for indefinite time. Thanks.

Guys I too have a question along these lines. I need to get Indian PCC for US GC and I live in Canada and getting it from the Indian consulate in Toronto is a nightmare so can I get it directly from India or does it have to have the stamp of the consulate servicing your area?

Thanks
